Read the Bible? Why? What’s in it for me? What difference will it make in my life? How do I know that if I invest the time and energy that my life will change for the better?

1 Corinthians 2:9 tells us this: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” This verse is telling us – No, promising us! – that God has incredible things planned for any individual who will seek Him and love Him. This message from God is a wide open door of spiritual reality and blessings, open and available to anyone! But the realization of this promise continues to elude most believers today. So many read their bibles, yet find themselves continually empty and filled with doubt about their relationship with God because words are there, but the life and spiritual energy it promises is not. Why is that?

Surveys show that even though over 80 percent of Americans believe the Bible to be the literal or “inspired” Word of God, less than 10 percent read the Bible daily. Even though the Bible continues to be the most sold book in the world, it is also one of the most neglected. How is it that something that promises and has proven to deliver so much, is so difficult to get into our lives as a spiritual habit?
